The vision of the Maui Jim Maui Classic is to host the nation’s top women’s basketball programs while inspiring the athletic and educational aspirations of Maui youth. One of Vertical Sports Maui’s goals is to give kids a hope and a future through sports, which made the Maui Classic a natural addition to Vertical Sports Maui’s program.

We are excited to announce that this year, the dates will be Dec 17-18, 2022. 

Games will be at the South Maui Gymnasium, Kihei. 

We are grateful to have the support of local volunteers and sponsors to make the Maui Classic possible each year, with Maui Jim being the title sponsor.

Our mission is to provide youth the opportunity to prepare for success both on and off the court. Each team visits local Maui schools to do school assemblies, basketball clinics, and reading & literacy programs before inviting students to watch them play later that week. This is a great way to bring together the kids of Maui with college athletes to spur one another on in both their education and athletic aspirations.

“It’s the highlight of our trip to be able to go into Maui schools” said Oregon State Head Coach Scott Ruek. The athletes usually enjoy questions like, “what did you eat to get so tall?”

Every dream starts with inspiration. Hosting the student athletes here on Maui, visiting schools, and competing for our island community is something each college represented is excited to experience.
